This 6-week course is made up of fun physical and mental exercises, group activities, and basic scene-work. Students will learn the basic tenants of improvisation such as; saying “yes, and…,” supporting their fellow improvisers, making positive choices, committing to the reality of the scene, and most importantly empowering the self. In this class, there are no mistakes and everything is a gift as we reinvigorate our sense of play. These valuable lessons in improv are great for the stage and even better for life.
I'm 4 weeks into my improv class and I am loving it. I have always enjoyed watching Improv shows and would always say "I could never do that".
Well, here I am, doing it. And it's fun and freeing and motivating.
This 6-week course is a continuation of the fundamentals introduced in Level I. Through more advanced exercises and two-person scenework, students will be challenged to initiate scenes from the top of their intelligence, develop characters from their life experiences, and build relationships with their scene partners. This highly engaging class will bring each student closer to trusting themselves and their instincts as well as those of their fellow classmates. Truly focused on grounded, patient, and collaborative play, this course will awaken each student’s curiosity to discover themselves and the world around them.
Of course I learned a lot about improv and how to work with a scene partner. What I didn't realize was that I would walk away after 6 weeks having learned more about myself, how to be open and present to what's in front of you, and to take life, and myself, a little less seriously.
At the end of Level II, there will be a student performance where family and friends are invited to see all of the fun you’ve been having in motion. And with the conclusion of the Improv Fundamentals course, CATCh will help each student discover what steps may be next for them whether that be continuing to our Advanced Improv levels or perhaps another route such as film production, sketch comedy, etc.
CATCh offers Improv Fundamentals Level 1 & 2 for teens as well. This course gives students the same curriculum as the adult class, but is focused and tuned specifically for teenagers.
Your class was a sincere life-changer for [my daughter]. I pushed her to take it and she absolutely LOVED it. Usually she's the quietest most reserved person anywhere but here at home, we're the only ones who know her quick wit.. it was fabulous to see her come out of her shell a bit from your class. You're doing fabulous work with these kids!
